old fashioned, country yeast dinner rolls
These country dinner rolls have quickly become a staple in our home and are a hit at family and church functions! They only take around 30 minutes to make!
There’s something truly special about the aroma of freshly baked bread wafting through the kitchen. Country dinner rolls are the kind of comfort food that instantly makes a meal feel more special. They remind us to slow down, enjoy the moment, and gather around the table with the people we love. Plus, there’s nothing like the joy of pulling warm rolls from the oven!
Ingredients:
yields approximately 12 old-fashioned, country dinner rolls
- 2 Tbsp of organic, whole milk
- 1 1/4 cups warm water
- 1/4 cup sugar- I prefer unbleached, organic cane sugar
- 2 Tbsp. active dry yeast
- 1/3 cup + 2 Tbsp organic cold pressed olive or avocado oil
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 egg- farm fresh preferred
- 3 3/4 cup + 1/4 cup unbleached, organic all purpose flour *you may need additional flour if you live in a humid climate*
Country Dinner Roll Instructions:
*a stand mixer is preferred, but these can be done by hand*
- Lightly grease a 9×13 baking pan using 2 Tbsp olive or avocado oil.
- In the bowl of your stand mixer, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Allow to proof for approximately 2-5 minutes until nice and bubbly.
- Mix in olive oil, salt, and egg.
- Add 3 3/4 cup flour- ONE cup at a time- until combined. Let the stand mixer knead the dough for approximately 8 minutes. The dough will be fairly soft and smooth when ready.
- Lightly flour your surface using 1/4 cup and begin shaping dough into 12 individual balls. – I prefer to cut the dough with a dough cutter and then pinch and fold a few times and roll the dough into small balls. You should be able to feel tension in the dough when rolling it into a ball.
- Place dough in a prepared 9×13 baking dish.
- *IMPORTANT STEP* Lightly brush milk over each roll. This will give them the perfect brown tops.
- Preheat oven to 375 F. Place pan on the top rake of oven and let the dough rise while your oven is preheating.
- Bake in a preheated oven for 20 minutes or until the top of the rolls are golden brown. Brush with butter before serving & enjoy!
As you share these rolls with family or friends, consider the stories that will unfold over the dinner table. Reflect on the heritage of home-cooked meals passed down through generations, the laughter and joy that fill the room, and the memories that are created with each meal. May your kitchen be a place of love, warmth, and hospitality, where the act of baking and sharing becomes a cherished tradition in your home!
